Use on-hand quantity when exporting stock

Updated June 12, 2026

What this does

Turn this on if Shopify should be updated using the on-hand stock quantity instead of the available stock quantity.

Available vs. on-hand stock

Available stock is the quantity that can currently be sold.

On-hand stock is the total quantity physically in stock, including items that may already be reserved, committed, or not available for sale yet.

When to use it

Use this if the connected system sends the total physical stock quantity and you want Shopify’s on-hand quantity to match it.

This can be useful when Shopify should calculate the available quantity itself based on orders, reservations, or other inventory changes.

When to leave it off

Leave this turned off if you only want to update the quantity that is available for sale.

This is the simpler and more common option for most setups.

Important

Enabling this changes how stock is sent to Shopify. It may behave differently from a normal stock export because Shopify requires a different inventory API when updating on-hand quantities.
